Sleeping in Toronto Pearson Airport: Terminals, Pods, and Hotels

Toronto Pearson operates around the clock, and on any given night both terminals host stranded and early-departure passengers. Whether you should join them depends on your connection, your budget, and how close a real bed needs to be.

Sleeping in the terminals

Pearson has two terminals, 1 and 3, linked by the free Terminal Link (LINK) train that runs 24/7 every four to eight minutes. Both terminals stay open all night and security generally tolerates resting passengers, with the usual caveats: armrests interrupt most seating rows, cleaning and announcements continue, and overnight maintenance work can be noisy. Landside is the realistic choice, since airside areas thin out after the last departures and some gate piers close. Keep documents secured and set an alarm with margin: security queues at Pearson build early, and US-bound passengers clear American preclearance at Terminal 1, which adds time in the morning.

No sleep pods, but a hotel inside Terminal 3

YYZ has no sleep-pod installations. What it has is better if your budget stretches: the Sheraton Gateway Hotel in Toronto International Airport is inside Terminal 3, with a 24-hour heated pool and a coffee bar that opens at 4:00 am for the first departure bank. From Terminal 1, walk to the LINK train and you are at the hotel minutes later without stepping outside.

The train-connected alternative

One free LINK stop beyond the terminals, the ALT Hotel Toronto Pearson at Viscount Station is the airport’s design-led mid-priced option, with soundproofed rooms and day-use stays. Because the LINK runs all night, a delayed arrival can still reach it at 3:00 am without a shuttle or taxi.

Hotels a shuttle ride away

The Dixon Road and Airport Road strip adds six shuttle-served options. The Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel & Suites directly opposite the airport, the DoubleTree by Hilton Toronto Airport, the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Toronto Airport and the Sandman Signature Toronto Airport Hotel all run free 24-hour or 24/7 shuttles; the Sandman publishes exact pickup posts (Terminal 1: Post S5, Ground Transportation level; Terminal 3: Post 37, Arrivals level). The Toronto Airport Marriott Hotel runs every 30 minutes from about 3:30 am to 2:00 am, and The Westin Toronto Airport operates a 24-hour shuttle on reservation. Frequently Asked Questions

Can I sleep overnight inside Toronto Pearson Airport?

Yes. Both terminals stay open around the clock and resting passengers are generally left alone, though seating is firm, announcements continue, and overnight construction noise is common. Landside areas are the realistic option once evening security closes airside access.

Does Toronto Pearson have sleep pods?

No dedicated sleep-pod installations operate at YYZ. The practical alternatives are a quiet bench, the Sheraton Gateway inside Terminal 3, or the ALT Hotel one free LINK train stop away.

Which hotel is closest for a few hours of sleep?

The Sheraton Gateway is inside Terminal 3, a walk from either terminal via the free Terminal Link train. The ALT Hotel at Viscount Station is minutes away on the same free train and offers day-use stays.
